Lunch!

My favorite meal is more definitely lunch. Although this could be controversial, there are just so many things to love about it. To begin, it is extremely versatile. Anything could be for lunch. If you're craving something savory and salty there are a plethera of sandwiches to choose from. You could also indulge in avocado toast, eggs, soup, salads, pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, and even sushi. For a sweeter tooth there are acai bowls, peanut butter and jellies, smoothies, pastries, and more. Since I have been at Santa Clara, I have gotten a poke bowl almost every day for lunch. Sushi is my favorite food and one of the reasons I loved it here so much when I visited was because of the poke and sushi option.

Lunch is also a very social event. I love going to lunch with friends or family because it's typically sunny and warm in the middle of the day. It is also a nice break in the day to enjoy food with my friends and forget about the copious amounts of work we have waiting for us.

A final reason to why lunch is the best meal is that it is also my grandma's favorite. Every year for Thanksgiving my family and I drive to their small farm in New Hampshire to spend time with her, my grandpa, aunts, uncles, and cousins. We spend the whole day catching up and spending time together. However, my grandma every year is always no where to be found. She spends the entire morning cooking for us; making pies, rolling croissants, stuffing the turkey, and making applesauce. When she is finished, usually around two or three pm, we all gather around the table to gaze at her work. Quickly, we succumb to how delicious it looks and pile our plates high with food. So, instead of having a Thanksgiving dinner, we would always have a large Thanksgiving lunch, thanks to my grandma. I encourage you, based on these reasons, to give lunch a chance. It can be more than just a sad sandwich at noon.

  1. The poke bowl from Benson is also one of my favorites! During the summer, I really loved having acai bowls for lunch because in Arizona there’s an amazing place called Berry Divine. I also think it's super important to have more representation for lunch foods and get over the simple sandwich model. Your family’s Thanksgiving lunch sounds amazing!

  2. Hey Eloise, I totally agree that lunch is versatile. I could have typical breakfast foods like eggs and waffles but I could also indulge in sandwiches or leftovers from last nights dinner. Lunch is also versatile because you can have it as early as 10am. Some people who skip breakfast chose this option. You can also have lunch as late as 4pm.
