Final Project Check-In

Long-term projects are difficult for me; I won't lie. I am the world's worst procrastinator and always tend to put things off till the very end. So, when Michelle announced this project close to two weeks ago, I felt overwhelmed. I've discovered that what helps me work on these types of projects is to set a timer for about an hour and just devout my time to the project and research. For the past couple of days, I've been doing this and scourging the internet and databases for good sources. Although I haven't been extremely successful yet, I know I will be able to find four good texts. What I'm struggling the most with currently is finding the right key words. My project is based on stories of righteous non-white women who are protagonists in their stories. But, finding the right words to produce results is difficult as there are never results for the keywords I thought would make sense. It has also been difficult finding an older text relating to this topic. In the past, women weren't typically seen as having much power and weren't written about in that light as often as they are now. I am trying to find a text that is similar to Antigone, and her story.

As for my next steps, I am going to continue using my 1-hour or 30-minute method and try to break the project into smaller chunks. I am also going to continue playing around with Neatline and practicing how to add pictures to make it more aesthetically pleasing. In my last Neatline exhibit, I displayed the information I wanted to, however, it didn't look as nice as it could of, had I known more about the software and how to use it correctly. In this one, I'm going to be focusing much more on its appearance and accessibility.

  1. Hey Eloise! I'm feeling a lot of the similar stuff, this project was definitely overwhelming at the start, and at least for me, it always feels like there is more to be done and I can't quite catch up! I know we will get through it though :) I like your method of sitting down and devoting an hour at a time to getting good work in, I might try that later today! I have a lot of the same thoughts about Neatline as well, our class session with Collin really helped me see how Neatline can be used in a more aesthetically pleasing way!

  2. Hello Eloise! That is a great idea, I tend to have a hard time finding the time to actually work on long term projects but setting up a timer for a certain period of time sounds manageable. I think I am going to start doing this too. Thank you for making the suggestion! That is exactly what I am having trouble with as well. Finding the right keywords can be so frustrating. I wish you the best of luck 🍀!

  3. Hi Eloise! This project is quite overwhelming, especially knowing that we're almost done with the quarter. I think setting timers for 1 hour or 30 min is actually a great idea to work on this project. I find it hard to work on english assignments with lots of writing and research so I think it's smart to break it up. I might try that sometime soon! I can totally relate to the struggle of researching sources. Sometimes my key words are so specific I can't find anything of use. I'm glad to hear about all the things you've been doing, and I'm excited to see what you come up with!

  4. Hi Eloise! It's great to hear that you are trying new methods to find motivation in getting this work done! I agree, it's a lot, but doing it in chunks will probably help a lot. I completely relate with your experiencing of having trouble finding the right keywords!

  5. I like that you're making a conscious effort to combat procrastinating. I definitely wish I'd done that earlier on, because I can say that I've unfortunately procrastinated on this project quite a bit.

  6. Hi Eloise, I also have a problem of procrastinating. Setting my own check in dates and setting smaller goals is usually how I have combatted it, but I still don't think I've completely gotten over it.
