Grenville Group Project Reflection

As a member of the Grenville project, I thought I would use this post to reflect on my experience making the project and give advice to people who haven't done theirs yet. I definitely liked doing the research excursion as a group much better than doing one alone. Sometimes I find it difficult to motivate myself to do the regular research excursions, but with a group it felt less daunting considering everyone was collaborating and I had specific tasks to complete. I also thought it was super helpful assigning leadership roles to everyone, making everyone's piece of the project very clear.

As a part of the design and organization team, I thought my job ended up being fun. Andrew and I obviously chose StoryMap. I enjoyed putting it together, and it was easy once everyone wrote their individual research sections. Some tips I would give when using StoryMap are as follows: choose a template at first instead of just pressing on the "create project" button (this way you can choose a map and layout that would work best for you), share your username and password with the person you are working with so you can both edit it, and finally to choose a darker background so the lettering appears clearer on screen. I would also recommend (based on Michelle's revisions), to use multiple digital humanities tools and maybe add links to them in the StoryMap. I think this would keep it more engaging as it would switch things up for the audience when the content starts to get long. Overall, I really enjoyed making the project and thought I learned a lot during it!
