Reflection on Literatures of the World

Going into this cultures and ideas course, I had no idea what to expect as the name is sort of vague and general. Even when I learned that its main topic was Literatures of the World, I was still slightly unsure of what that entailed. However, I found that I have learned so much more about the world and different international issues than I ever have in my life. Every book we read took place in a different country and touched on a different problem. Whether this problem had to do with gender, race, social class, economic class, or religion; we dealt and learned about them all. Not only this, we also learned about physical literature and the history of books and printing themselves. For me, this was probably the most unexpected part of class. I found it super interesting when we went into the library and learned about the archives and special collections as they have so much unique material hidden within it.

This class was highly beneficial to me and I feel as if Michelle did a great job of managing our class. She taught us so much without overwhelming us too much. We also worked in large groups and practiced presenting, which is something I aim to work at over my time in college. I like how our class was organized; I never felt as if there was a project or homework coming up that I didn't know about. The organization was consistent and made sense. I also loved how the class is based off of a graded contract as I think I learned how to manage my time and like I got back what I put into the class. I feel as if our class got pretty close throughout the twenty weeks and it was great getting to know everyone!
